HOW MUCH FUEL DOES A JET AIRPLANE NEED?
TRIP FUEL:
The fuel needed to go from one point to another with flight phases including take off, climb, cruise, descent, approach and touchdown.
CONTINGENCY FUEL:
The fuel that must be either 5% of the Trip Fuel or should be extra 5 minutes mandated by law
ALTERNATE FUEL:
The fuel that is required for diversion of aircraft from the destined airport to an alternate aerodrome due to situations like runway closure or bad weather which includes flight phases like climb, cruise and descent.
FINAL RESERVE FUEL:
The fuel regulated by law that must give the aircraft a minimum of 30 minutes flying time at an altitude of 1500 ft over the alternate aerodrome at a given speed. A fuel emergency must be initiated when the final reserve fuel is used at any phase of a flight.
TAXI FUEL:
The fuel that is needed for taxiing the aircraft and also for starting the APU (Auxillary Power Unit) and the engines.
